King's Canyon
These are some scenes from our morning hike through King's Canyon... formed over 800 million years ago when an inland sea existed here where there is now desert.
What is katabasis, you may be wondering? From the Greek, it literally means "going down-under". The term refers to the journey that various classical protagonists, such as Odysseus, take into the underworld... the place where they confront death so that they can be purified of fear and return to life with renewed purpose, passion, and courage. Ok, I know that Australia isn't exactly the underworld, but I thought the word play was fun! And couldn't we all do with a bit more purpose, passion, and courage?
